Yon was born in Toronto. He studied photography with his father before graduating NYU’s Film Program in 2002. “The Cutman”, his thesis film, had its premiere at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival and has screened at numerous other festivals, including South by Southwest and Cinequest.

In addition to a grant from the Caucus Foundation, the film has garnered the Brett Ratner Film Award, the George Heinemann Production Award, and an Emerging Artist Award from the Canada Council for the Arts. A published writer, Yon is currently developing a number of original feature scripts, one of which is a finalist for the 2003 Sundance Filmmaker Labs.
