GRANT RECIPIENTS: KEVIN KING |
Kevin King first studied filmmaking under Academy Award-winning editor Dr. Sarah Stein at North Carolina State University. He then studied European
cinema at Leeds University in Great Britain and went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in film production from San Diego State University.
In film school, Kevin worked as an editor and cinematographer on the award-winning short documentaries
Ramadan, Ma-Nang, American Love Forever and A Boy from the Bronx. His thesis film, the one-hour documentary
Dark and Bloody Ground, is the story of a 15-year-old boy who was arrested and convicted of the attempted rape and brutal murder
of a 77-year old great grandmother in a small town in Kentucky.
Kevin is currently the lead editor and a primary cinematographer on the award-winning television documentary series
Stories of the Sharp Experience. The show chronicles patients and their healthcare experiences at a prominent San Diego Hospital.
For his work on the show, he’s received two Emmys for editing and a nomination for photography. He has also edited material for the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Quicksilver, The San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau, and American Ranch Real Estate.
Kevin is also dedicated to teaching the craft of filmmaking to children and several of his student’s films have received national honors.
